'Oude Vismijn' Ghent

Interactive design, projection and AV engineering

Concept

The new tourist office of Ghent is situated in the renovated fish market alongside the city canals. This new high-tech tourist agency is filled with interactivity.
Information will be searched in three zones; a trigger zone with randomly projected images, a zone where information can be consulted through a tactile table and a pick-up zone for folders or tickets.

The centerpiece of this space is the giant data table where everyone gathers around and exchanges information about cultural events. A lower part is reserved for disabled people and young children.

Challenge

The custom-made table by SAQ is a masterpiece of design, which could of course not be neutralized by the presence of prominent hardware. As a total multimedia partner, CREATE provided consulting, prototyping, engineering and installation of this custom multimedia installation.

An additional challenge was to make the corian interactive. Different test and research stages resulted in one big seamless capacitive touch surface.

Installation and control

CREATE also took care of the hardware installation. One of the challenges was calculating and installing the projection mirros pixel perfect. A complete ventilation system is installed in the ceiling to cool everything.  Here as well, the attention for detail was a must and we left nothing to chance.

Finally we custom programmed a control system for the whole multimedia installation. The control system monitors the projectors, sends errors messages and allows the employees to start/stop everything by pressing a single button.
